PTSD skills kit
From Christine:
PTSD Skills Kit
What is in my skills kit and how do I use it?:
- A photo of little me – I use this as a reminder to stop and connect and check in on Little Christine.
- A hippo stress ball – I chose a hippo one as it is my favourite animal.
- Fabric bracelet – This is a symbol of the ́Invisible String ́ and reminds me that I am
not alone and am connected to all those that love me.
- Flash cards – a mix of reminders and statements as well as suggestions of things
that could help in the moment.
- Guatemalan Worry People – I hold these in my hand and tell them my struggles.
- Putty – I find holding this in my hand and manipulating it to be very soothing.
- Roll on essential oils – Lavender, mint, tea tree, gute laune.
- Acupressure rings – These would be my most used items. I use them to roll up and
down my finger and can apply pressure.
- Hair elastics
How does my PTSD skills kit benefit me?
I first came across the concept of a skills kit in a clinic. Having this skills kit gives me quick access to a variety of items that can help me in states of distress. The variety of items allows me to try out what I need in the moment. The flash cards are so important for me as they remind me of things that I can ́t think of in moments of distress.
Do you have a PTSD Skills Kits?
I would love to know what items you have in it that help you.
