Seeking the best treatment for our mental health

With the trend of insta-therapy and non qualified people on there offering mental health services (disguised using many labels), I think it's important to remember to seek and use only professionals that meet certain standards and are qualified in the mental health field. Would you go to someone who has broken and healed their leg with professional medical treatment, and pay them for regular support to help you heal your broken leg? So why should we consider the same for our mental health and emotional wellbeing? Should we pay someone we find on social media or depend on someone we find on social media, to help us and support us with our mental and emotional wellbeing? Please beware of this dangerous trend on social media.

Did you know that to become a psychotherapist in Germany, you need a Bachelors and a Masters degree, further training in a clinic for 5-7 years, your own therapy for minimum 2yrs, a supervisor to oversee and coach you once you start practising, and take a written and oral exam. Yes it's a lot!!!! Furthermore, psychotherapy is regulated by law and ethical standards.

Sure, we sometimes come across a "bad" therapist..this exists in every profession. And we deserve the best care so we should not give up finding a therapist that works best for us. And don't hesitate to ask your therapist about the qualification process. Perhaps get their opinion on the insta therapy trend

Need recommendations for a therapist? Check out our forum resources section or message me for details.

What to do until you find the best therapist for you? Read and learn was my approach. And honestly starting our community and immsersing myself in our activities has been life changing for me. I wouldn't be who I am today without everything I experienced in our community. When we share what we've learnt with each other, in our support group meetings or 1:1 meetings, or self care circles, it's the same as exchanging with a friend (and there is definitely no money exchanged 😂).

So please think about spending hard earned money on something or someone not professionally qualified 🤷🏽‍♀️ Rather save the money each month and go to a private therapist once a nice sum has been saved 🙏🏽

This post was motivated by one of our community sisters who wasted money and came to us after a year and said "nothing is helping me." - She was in distress and feeling worse about herself because she was experiencing the same triggers, the same thought patterns, the same emotional flashbacks after a year of learning how to manage her stress from a pseudo therapist on social media. She recently wrote me to express how much better she is thanks to going to a professional therapist and learning and exchanging in our community events. Feel super proud of yourself darling 🫂💞

Enjoyed an insightful conversation with my therapist about this. She shared this table with me:

This is what every therapist needs to do after their bachelors and masters degrees.

let's take the most precious care of our mental health by ensuring that the people we go to for support are qualified and trained 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
