Grief as Medicine - by Pia

So beautiful and insightful. It felt like a such a safe container to me, in the nice room, with the elements present at the Altar, Essenam Holding the space and the beautiful group.

What I love about Essenams Workshop is that there is so much knowledge and wisdom in her words and what she shares and at the same time, one gets to experience it and feel it as well.

For me I was a bit worried before that I won't be able to contact and feel grief within me and that I would stay on the intellectual level. It was so touching for me in the first sharing with my community sister to be able to witness her grief and through that coming in contact with "my own".

Grief as Medicine - by Ghufran

Attending the grief workshop was a grounding experience. The cozy setting and the diverse group of women created a welcoming space for all of us to grieve in our own way, and the shared vulnerability reminded me of the universality of grief, no matter our backgrounds.

My intentions going into the session were twofold:

1. to better understand and accept the role of tears, and

2. to process the (collective) grief and stuck emotions Iโ€™ve been carrying. By the end of the session, the two intentions were fulfilled.

I often struggle with being emotional, especially in formal settings where crying can be seen as a sign of weakness or unprofessionalism. However, Essenam reframed my perspective on tears, encouraging me to see them as a powerful tool for release. She explained that tears are a way to process emotions and facilitate transformation, allowing us to move through grief and emerge renewed.โ€ฆ

Art therapy is not for me - I am not a creative person

I was curious about art therapy mainly because I had read about its many benefits and that many clinics offer some type of art therapy. In the first sessions with Jeanne, I was not enjoying it - I resorted to shapes and colours that I knew โ€œlookedโ€ great - things that I had created before. As much Jeanne encouraged us and called each of us an artist - I was blown away by what some of our more talented sisters were creating and was comparing myself to them and feeling very vulnerable. But as time went on I found myself starting to focus more on the creation not on the outcome - this past year I have also become just exhausted about talking about my feelings all the time and have been looking for different ways to express myself through movement and different creative ways. It was a year ago,โ€ฆ
