I was curious about art therapy mainly because I had read about its many benefits and that many clinics offer some type of art therapy. In the first sessions with Jeanne, I was not enjoying it - I resorted to shapes and colours that I knew “looked” great - things that I had created before. As much Jeanne encouraged us and called each of us an artist - I was blown away by what some of our more talented sisters were creating and was comparing myself to them and feeling very vulnerable. But as time went on I found myself starting to focus more on the creation not on the outcome - this past year I have also become just exhausted about talking about my feelings all the time and have been looking for different ways to express myself through movement and different creative ways. It was a year ago, when something switched inside of me and I started to enjoy art therapy - I learned to access an intuitive aspect of creating - and let go of the thinking part. Now in art therapy, I use the movement of the chalk as an outlet, I cut up the paper and create different shapes to express different feelings, and I am not thinking what I want the outcome to be. I am so glad I found the discipline to continue with it (thanks to all of you that come to art therapy and encourage each other) because now I look forward to it and it gives me so much
